The Katsina State Drama and Cultural Promotion Association has initiated a partnership with the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA) aimed at enhancing public awareness on road safety across the state.

During a courtesy visit to the headquarters of KASSAROTA, the Association’s chairman, Malam Musa Wakili, led a delegation of cultural promoters to engage the Authority in discussions centred on collaboration for effective traffic sensitisation. Wakili stressed that the Association is keen on supporting KASSAROTA’s efforts through drama and cultural advocacy, which he described as powerful tools for public enlightenment.

He commended the leadership of KASSAROTA for their relentless commitment to enforcing traffic laws despite challenges from some road users. According to him, the Authority’s role in safeguarding lives and ensuring orderly movement on roads is critical to the development of Katsina State.

Responding, the Director General of KASSAROTA, Major Yahaya Garba Rimi (Rtd), welcomed the initiative and described it as timely. He said the proposed collaboration aligns with the agenda of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who has prioritised safety and protection of lives in the state.

Major Rimi raised concerns over the increasing cases of road crashes, most of which he attributed to disregard for traffic rules. He particularly pointed out the issue of overloading, especially among commercial vehicles designed for five or six passengers but often seen carrying ten or more, endangering the lives of commuters.

He praised the Association’s approach and assured them of KASSAROTA’s full support in jointly promoting safer road practices. “We are open to working with all stakeholders who are genuinely committed to reducing road accidents and protecting lives across Katsina,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to explore joint public campaigns and outreach programmes targeting both urban and rural communities in the state.
